Alex, you're a hack and always have been. Now you're a hack for Obama, continuing to defend him when it's clear that the's thrown in his lot with Wall St / Big Insurance / Big Pharma, while continuing to deceive hacks like you. You're a failed "writer", failed "journalist", failed "voice over actor", now you're trying to defend a failed President who as another poster said, had a mandate and betrayed it. For goodness sake, wake up and do something constructive with your position before it's too late!

Glad to see people are putting pressure on Obushma and the fake left wing of the War Party, but the public option was always a scam. Granted, the insurance parasites don't want any competition from an entity that would be subject to public oversight and possibly reveal anything about how they're bilking the consumer. However, the public option failed in all the states that tried it cuz it gets the sickest, most expensive patients; the ones the insurance industry doesn't want.

A single-payer, 'Medicare for all' type plan is the way to go; every industrialized nation has some version of universal healthcare- except for the US. They're paying way less money- and the US ranks 37 in healthcare outcomes. The private insurance industry is a scam, and it has failed the People; the public interest is being subverted, and human lives are being destroyed.

With one payer there's increased negotiating power w/ the drug/tech industry, no incentive to deny coverage, an incentive to keep people healthy, and paperwork and overhead costs are reduced. With Medicare, patients can choose their doctor, with more freedom than under an HMO. Some doctors might complain about Medicare pay rates, but they also complain that insurance companies interfere with the care they're able to provide- Medicare offers far less interference, compared.

A study by the California Nurses Association found that "Medicare for All (Single-Payer) Reform Would Be Major Stimulus for Economy with 2.6 Million New Jobs, $317 Billion in Business Revenue, $100 Billion in Wages"

Americans support single-payer, when they're not being brainwashed by the idiot box and insurance industry propaganda:

Thanks for your comment William. Though I'm not a fan of Hillary, I agree with your sentiments.

And yes, Financial reform will most certainly be a sham as well.

Frans,
Thanks for your comment. I agree, there has never been a time -- in my lifetime anyway -- more ripe than now for a third party.

There's been a change in this country -- a huge surge in populism on the Left that has been largely trivialized within the beltway bubble.

Dissatisfaction of government has never been higher (and it's reflected in all the polls, here's one: http://www.alterpolitics.com/politics/gallop-poll-majority-of-americans-view-members-of-congress-as-unethical-dishonest/ ). People don't believe their representatives represent their interests anymore.

I suspect the Democratic Party is in for one big rude awakening.
